Why urban art?
I never set out to be an urban artist. I was studying traditional fine art, but I realised there were no artists painting today that I really connected with and enjoyed. The only people paintings that I found interesting were by urban artists, so I experimented with urban art techniques which just felt right. I taught myself from scratch and never looked back!
What’s your proudest achievement?
I’d say my proudest achivement to date would be a project I’ve just completed. Unfortunatly, I’m not allowed to talk about it at the moment, all I can say is a huge amount of people will see it soon.
Which artist inspires you?
This is a hard one. I find inspiration for my work in many different things. Art-wise I’d say my biggest influence would be the futurist movement and in particular one painting Nude Trancending the Staircase by Marcel Duchamp. I’m also, of course, influenced by other urban artists such as Jean Michel Basquiat, c215, Conor Harrington and Doze Green.
Do you have a recurring theme?
My work has had a theme running throughout the last three years. It is predominantly about technology and how it shapes and controls our lives, and also how we’re surrounded by signals we can neither see nor feel.
Any clues about your plans for Sand, Sea & Spray 2013?
I’m planning something a little different this year for Sand, Sea & Spray. I’m painting a male for a change, and also doing it in a slightly different way. I feel it’s a bit of a risky piece to do but that’s all part of the fun.
