A film screening, creative workshop and conversation at Aunty Social will explore how art, technology and community action can help people navigate displacement, conflict and survival during Refugee Week 2026.
Taking place during Refugee Week 2026, Rendered in Light: Screening + Creative Activism Session brings together Fylde Coast Amnesty, CREATIF CIC and Aunty Social for an evening exploring solidarity, resilience and hope in the face of conflict.
The evening begins with Fylde Coast Amnesty sharing current casework and campaigns relating to Palestine. On the night they will be offering insight into the experiences behind the ongoing news coverage. This year’s Refugee Week theme is Courage, and this event is a brilliant opportunity to engage with the human stories that can often be lost behind headlines.
Attendees will then be invited to take part in a hands on campaign and poster design workshop exploring how creativity can help communicate ideas, build awareness and give communities a voice. Working together, participants will create visual responses inspired by the stories and issues discussed throughout the session.
The evening concludes with a screening of Rendered in Light, a powerful short documentary directed by Maria Marrone, accompanied by a virtual reality showcase.
At the centre of the documentary is Mosab, a software engineer separated from his wife and children after they leave Gaza for emergency medical treatment. Remaining behind in a city under siege, he channels his skills into developing a virtual reality programme designed to help survivors of genocide cope with trauma.
As conflict continues around him, Mosab creates immersive digital spaces intended to provide moments of calm and reflection for others. The film follows his efforts to balance his own isolation and uncertainty with a determination to support his community, exploring how creativity, technology and compassion can become tools for survival under extraordinary circumstances.
Described as an intimate portrait of resilience, Rendered in Light examines themes of family, displacement, innovation and hope, while asking what it means to care for others when faced with seemingly overwhelming challenges.
Rendered in Light takes place on Monday 22nd June from 6.30pm to 8pm at Aunty Social, Topping Street. The event is free to attend with no previous experience required for the creative workshop. Reserve a spot here.
