What can horror do? Can it be important? Should it just be entertainment? Do they still make ‘em like they used to? Is horror today just not like it used to be, or are we in a golden age? Over the course of this decade, horror has become a driving force for cinematic recovery in the wake of the pandemic, with the genre’s comparative reliability being succour for picture houses. The genre has also arguably seen a boost in reputation with some of the more respectable figures of the industry coming from a background in the genre. This free event acts as a discussion forum for where the genre is across all media in the year 2023.

    Antonia Charlesworth Stack is a journalist and editor from Blackpool. She was deputy editor of Big Issue North magazine and is editor of Blackpool Social Club. Antonia is also the founder of Reclaim Blackpool, a women's safety campaign that began life as an article she wrote for Blackpool Social Club. She's a contributing author to the Lancashire Stories anthology with her story about a Blackpool performer, The Call of The Sea. The book is available for free in libraries across the county.
