Preview: Switch on your tastebuds at food festival

Here in Blackpool, we’re well known for making a meal of the annual Illuminations switch-on weekend – but this year they’ll be serving up something especially tasty on August 29, 30 and 31.

It’s called the Switch-On Food & Drink Festival, described by organisers, Citylicious Events, as ‘the biggest ever celebration of food and drink seen in the UK’, and will be held on the Promenade, alongside Central Pier.

With a focus on locally sourced produce, the Chef’s Theatre will host top local chefs cooking their favourite dishes and inspiring the audience to recreate those meals at home. In the Drinks Theatre, some of Britain’s top mixologists will be mixing and shaking up fruity concoctions, while the Cake & Bake, Chocolate & Dessert Theatre Tent is where top patisserie chefs and chocolatiers will demonstrate their favourite recipes. Some of the UK’s most exciting street food vendors will be serving up a wide variety of tasty delicacies from around the world and artisan producers, kitchen ware retailers and crafters will be selling local speciality produce for you to take home.

Iain Fenwick of Citylicious Events said: “This free event is a celebration of Britain’s multi-cultural society and a platform to showcase the diversity of the British food culture. Street Food is cool; mobile isn’t just about technology nowadays, some of the tastiest foods you can enjoy are served to you in a styrofoam container on the corner of your high street. What’s more is they are made from locally sourced produce and as Citylicious is a big fan of the ‘farm to table’ initiative we cannot think of any time better than bringing it all together during one of the country’s most iconic celebrations.”
