Letโs face it, itโs always nice to get something for free, especially when it will keep the kids amused for a couple of hours during the long summer break. To launch this yearโs panto, Blackpool’s Grand Theatre will be holding a free family fun day on Friday 22 August, at Stanley Park bandstand, from 1pm to 3pm. The event, which is hosted by Radio Wave, is a great opportunity to meet all the stars of the season’s pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, presented by Martin Dodd for UK Productions.
The day promises to be fun-filled and exciting for all the family. In addition to meeting the cast, there will be lots of free things to do such as a circus skills workshop by Blackpool Circus School, a bouncy castle, free giveaways and lots more. There is also a fancy dress competition for the children, who are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite fairytale character. The winner will receive a family ticket to Sleeping Beauty.
The line-up includes actress Jennifer Ellison, best known for her roles as Emily Chadwick in Brookside and Meg Giry in the 2004 film adaptation of Phantom Of The Opera. In addition to these, versatile Emily is also a singer with two top ten singles to her credit, and has appeared on numerous television shows including Dancing on Ice and Hellโs Kitchen. This versatility is bound to bring a magical quality to this yearโs pantomime.
Comedian, actor, writer and BBC Radio presenter Steve Royle is now in his twelfth year of Grand Theatre pantomime. Previously known as Mad Edgar, the court jester at Camelot Theme Park, he has also supported Peter Kay and Dave Spikey on tour and was recently voted Entertainer of the Year at the Red Rose Awards.
Well known Radio Wave presenter Hayley Kay has starred in the Grandโs last two pantomimes, Cinderella and Peter Pan. She also presents many events around the Fylde Coast including Miss Blackpool, the Illuminations Switch On and, most recently, Lytham Proms.
Playing Prince Charming is BBCโs Any Dream Will Do finalist Lewis Bradley. In 2007 Lewis wowed the panel in his first audition and went on to finish in third place, quite an achievement as he only turned 18 years old the week of the final.
Finally, the part of Nurse Kelly is performed by Eastenders star Nick Wilton. Perrier Award nominated Nick is also a scriptwriter, writing for Smack The Pony, Not the Nine OโClock News and The Les Dennis Laughter Show.
Set in the beautiful Stanley Park this event provides a great opportunity for a fun-filled event that the whole family can enjoy. And remember, Itโs FREE!
