Tis the Season to be Funky

Although the full set is yet to be announced, the line-up for the 2014 Christmas Ball at the Winter Gardens ensures that it is definitely the event to take our minds off the shameless capitalism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and to slam the soul back into the festive season.

Headliners are the one and only UK soul pioneers Soul II Soul featuring Jazzie B and Caron Wheeler. 2014 is Soul II Soul’s 25th Anniversary year and they will be performing this full band, old school-style gig to celebrate. Soul II Soul’s slogan ‘A happy face, a thumpin’ bass, for a lovin’ race’ and hit singles Keep On Movin’ and Back To Life will ensure that this will be a night to remember!

Following on from his popular set at this event last year, we see the return of the irrepressible BBC Radio 6 DJ and much loved star of Red Dwarf and Coronation Street Craig Charles who will be bringing his Funk & Soul Club to the decks alongside a host of other artists.

Former artists at this event have included: iconic DJ Norman Jay MBE, Acid Jazz pioneers Smoove and Turell, and popular heavyweights The Brand New Heavies. Also, local artists Touch the Pearl, The Monster Squad and Louise Spiteri, DJ Duo PBR Streetgang, Pacha London’s resident DJs Shaun & Ellis, and local DJs Rick Napier, Lee Walls, Fez, Ric Porteus and Ed Mahon so the night is set to be one of slick beats, smooth sounds and soulful atmosphere.

This event is supported by registered charity Inner City Music which exists to present the best music from around the world and support main stage events with a dynamic education programme which operates throughout the year –  both in their venue Band-on-the-Wall as well as in the community and at local schools. For further information on what learning and participation services they have to offer, click here.

Taking place in the ever impressive Empress Ballroom, on Saturday 13 December, there are still some tickets available (priced at the early bird rate of £35) so make sure you don’t miss out and book here  – and remember not only will you have a great night out, you’ll be feeling good about where your money has gone as well!
