The first performance in Blackpool of UK Productions’ Sleeping Beauty will be on Friday 5 December and it runs until Sunday 4 January 2015. Ticket sales are already up by 15% compared to last year’s production of Peter Pan. The Grand Theatre is renowned both locally and regionally for staging the Christmas pantomimes and ticket sales have soared each year.

Sleeping Beauty stars Jennifer Ellison, Steve Royal, Hayley Kay, (Radio Wave presenter) and Lewis Bradley. Martin Dodd, of UK Productions says: “We strive to make the show bigger and better every year and I think the audience really appreciate it…”

The chief executive of the Grand Theatre, Ruth Eastwood, commented: “For many young people, it is an important first introduction to the theatre”.

The fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty begins once upon a time, in a far off kingdom when a princess is born.. There is much jubilation around the birth of the princess and all in the land celebrate her arrival except one person, Carabosse, a wicked fairy who didn’t receive an invitation to the christening. In return, an evil spell is cast upon the beautiful princess, by the wicked Carabosse, which means on her sixteenth birthday the princess will prick her finger on a spinning wheel and fall asleep for one hundred years.

Only a kiss from the princess’ truly beloved can break the spell and wake her but who will kiss the Princess? Silly Billy? The good fairy? Or the handsome prince? In order to see the magical awakening of the beautiful princess from her long and deep sleep you must come along to the pantomime at the Grand Theatre to witness it yourself.
