Fleetwood launches new music competition

A brand-new event will be music to the ears of competitors from across Wyre, Blackpool and the Fylde Coast. Fleetwood Riffs will be held at Fleetwood’s Marine Hall on March 28.

Open to all bands, musicians and performers from the area, the event has a cash prize fund of £1,500. There are three categories to enter – young bands aged 12 to 17, soloists and duos, and established groups. There’s a family disco and programme of entertainment planned between the afternoon and evening categories.

Chris Wyatt, Arts and Events Development Officer at Wyre Council said: “It’s important we provide opportunities for local Fylde talent to showcase their work in a competitive yet friendly and supportive setting. This event provides a platform, especially for the younger bands, to have experience of performing in a great venue like Marine Hall and potentially to the biggest audience they have ever played to. Fleetwood Riffs launches, for me, a firm commitment to developing youth music in Wyre, which will use a variety of venues both indoors and outdoors.”

The closing date for entries is February 14. To find out more and to apply visit the website. Tickets to watch the event are just £5 each and are on sale now. To book call 01253 887693.
