Rae Morris: HMV in-store signing

With the release of her debut album, Unguarded, on Monday, it was only a matter of time before Rae Morris finally played a home gig. The Blackpool born and bred singer-songwriter had an in-store performance and album signing at HMV Blackpool, where dozens of locals turned up to hear Morris’ ethereal voice and to be in the presence of Blackpool’s most recent superstar.

Coming in slightly late from the motorway, she strolled in wearing sweatpants and trainers, showing us that she truly felt at home. Sitting comfortably behind her red keyboard, she started by saying that she bought her very first album in this store – a PJ Harvey CD, and that it felt strange performing back in her home town. She effortlessly sang a variety of songs, from old EPs and the new album, with the microphone amplifying her already powerful voice around the entire store. An acoustic version of Under The Shadows, her current single, was hauntingly brilliant, and she showed us that all she needs to have the crowd stunned into silence is her trusty keyboard and her magnificent voice. She closed the intimate set with the title track from her album, Unguarded, which was met with a huge applause and cheers all around.

She then invited the audience to an album signing, greeting everyone with a smile and a hug, with a handwritten personalised message on the album sleeve.

Rae’s debut album Unguarded is out now and is currently at number five in the UK album charts. Help support our local talent by purchasing an album. You won’t regret it!
