Yoga with a thumping beat

Yin, Yang and Sounds is the new yoga and live music event in Blackpool where a yoga class is accompanied by live music from local musicians. This month the music will be African drumming by 3 members of Tidal Beats, Blackpool’s community drumming organisation. The event will take place on Friday 27th March at 6.30 – 8.00pm at The LivingWell Health Club, Hilton.

The class, taught by Angela Ross of Yoga Blackpool, will begin with a 45 minute Yang practice. Yang is a traditional hatha yoga which helps to develop muscular strength, stamina and flexibility. Djembe drums and percussion from Tidal Beats will enhance the practice, providing attendees with a rhythmic beat to connect their breath and postures to. Stan (Tidal Beats) also runs Poco Loco – Blackpool’s Samba band and said

We’re really looking forward to taking part – we’ve never done anything like this before. Poco Loco are accepting new members at the moment as well so it’s also a great way for us to let people know what we’re all about.

The second half of the evening will be Yin Yoga. This involves holding the same position for longer periods of time and helps to penetrate deep into connective tissue. As well as being very relaxing it expands flexibility, loosens energetic blockages and increases energy flow. The Yin half of the class will be with a backdrop of recorded sounds of the Sitar – a string instrument used in Indian classical music.

‘Rhythm is one of the most powerful of pleasures, and when we feel a pleasurable rhythm we hope it will continue. When it does, it grows sweeter’ Mary Oliver – Poet.

Everyone welcome. Several beginners who had never practiced yoga before attended the last event and gave very positive feedback.

Friday 27th March at 6.30 – 8.00pm at LivingWell Health Club, Hilton Hotel. For more information visit the Facebook event or call Natalie on 07546 695199.
