Norman Jay MBE at Fylde Rugby Club

Alfresco Summer BBQ

What can I say, I am so excited about this DJ. A regular at The Big Chill and Notting Hill Carnival, its not his first time in Blackpool either. But surely this could be a legendary finale as the open air Alfresco Family Events potentially draw to close at Fylde Rugby Club.

The Good Times Sound System at Notting Hill Carnival and Norman Jay’s gigs are no doubt best enjoyed in those hot and charged outdoor sessions, with Notting Hill itself attracting around fifteen thousand revelers but this is an amazing opportunity to experience his skills up front and personal. Don’t get me wrong for those of us who are not familiar with his DJ sets the music he plays can be down tempo with Ska, Northern Soul and well chosen Motown and House music mixed in together like a tasty stew of musical merriment, but most of all it is music that can be danced to.

Yes he has a MBE awarded to him in 2002 for services to music but Norman first came to prominence playing  unlicensed parties in the 80’s and is well known for not sticking to a genre and coining the phrase “rare groove”. Bringing the carnival spirit to Blackpool through his own eclectic choice of records you are guaranteed a good time. Tickets are selling fast with only 500 available you’d be silly not to get them booked right this minute.

In support of Norman Jay MBE the line up for the event is: Fat City Records, with a troupe of their all star selectors triggering a selection of the Manchester record stores finest wax. AP Moran and Chinny from 7’s of Bliss and John Tree from The Perfumed Garden are also on hand.

Norman Jay comes to Blackpool at the Alfresco Summer BBQ at Fylde Rugby Club on Saturday 20 June from 12pm. Tickets are £8 and are available via the Facebook event along with more information about the line up.
