Hercules takes to the stage with the help of the community

Everyone’s favourite Greek superhero is set to grace the Grand Theatre stage tonight with New Art Club’s family friendly take on Hercules – and he’s joined by some of the regions most enthusiastic performers from the community.

New Art Club are Pete Shenton and Tom Roden, often described as the Morecambe and Wise of dance, renowned for creating unique work that brings together the worlds of dance and comedy.

Now they bring their unique comic style and sense of the absurd to the story of the 12 Labours of Hercules in a hilarious and outrageous family friendly show that’s ideal entertainment for children of all ages.

There’s dancing, there’s singing, there’s hula hooping and audience participation as well as some magical surprises as the story of Hercules unfolds in a crazy twist on the classics that encourages children to join the original superhero on his epic quest.

An essential part of the production is the community groups who help bring the story to life at.

At The Grand, performers from UCLAN, Urban Dance Project and Fylde Coast Youth Dance will bring to life the terrifying multi-headed monster the Hydra, perform a unique folk dance routine in the stinky Augean Stables and take flight as the man-eating Stymphalian Birds.

The groups have all been working with local dance artist Sarah Jane Lockwood and Pete and Tom, adding their own individual twists to three spectacular routines.

Hercules shows tonight (23 June) at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool. Tickets are just £8 and are available from the Grand Theatre website.
