Big names for Little Theatre

China Crisis

There’s an eclectic line-up of musical acts on their way to Thornton Little Theatre this autumn – and tickets are selling fast. The gigs are being promoted by Hollow Horse Events, whose mission in life is to bring nationwide artists to local venues – and it is through their efforts that China Crisis, Kyla Brox and A Celebration of Simon and Garfunkel will be appearing at the theatre later this year.

On Friday, October 2, A Celebration of Simon and Garfunkel – AKA Tim Chu and Ian Bailey – will present their take on the life and works of one of the greatest singing duos to ever perform.  Tim and Ian play nearly two hours of Simon and Garfunkel’s music in chronological order, interspersed with stories about the songs. The set includes classics like the Homeward Bound, Scarborough Fair, The Sound of Silence, I Am a Rock, Mrs Robinson and many more. There is always some solo Paul Simon material and the odd original song too. Everyone has a favourite, so if you like the Simon and Garfunkel material, this show is the closest thing you’ll get to seeing them live! Tickets are just £12.

Blues and Soul singer Kyla Brox is taking to the stage on Saturday, October 10, to perform her repertoire of classic R ‘n’ B songs and some of  her own compositions. Kyla’s stunning, powerful voice and passionate performances have wowed audiences worldwide. She was nominated for the 2014 European Blues Awards in the Best Female category – and this is a rare opportunity to see her perform live locally. Tickets are £10.

Rounding things up are China Crisis, who will be performing on Sunday, November 22. Formed in Liverpool in 1979, China Crisis are releasing their new studio album in 2015 and embarking on a nationwide tour to promote it. With a string of top 40 singles and albums to call upon, as well as their new music, this will be a night that will be loved by fans new and old. Original members  Eddie Lundon and Gary Daly will be playing all the familiar songs including Black Man Ray and Wishful Thinking. It’s a night not to be missed! Tickets are £15 and are expected to sell quickly so book your seats soon.

Carl Barrow, the man behind Hollow Horse Events comments, “When I was first approached to work with Wyre Council, we identified an opportunity to bring quality entertainment to Thornton Little Theatre. I hope to bring an eclectic but popular selection of acts to the area. The three shows in autumn hopefully reflect this.

“The Celebration of the Music of Simon and Garfunkel is a show I personally have been involved with several times. It’s less of a tribute night, more a chance to enjoy music created by two of the most talented artists. Tim Chu and Ian Bailey are note-perfect and as well as performing the songs we all know and love, they have many tales to tell of the legendary duo.

“Kyla Brox… wow! She is quite simply one of the greatest female blues singers of this or any other generation and China Crisis are touring to promote their new album which has just been released and is currently receiving rave reviews.

“Why should we have to travel to the major cities for a top night out? We have great theatres and venues on our doorsteps let’s use them.”
