I love these shows and could easily attend by myself, however I managed to convince my nephews to accompany me to the show so I could enjoy this awesome piece of children’s theatre.
Arriving late and sneaking in, I joined the rest of my family to a Greek tragedy being played out on stage with the actors playing the parts of mum, dad, daughter and son investigating what the Greeks brought to our current every day lives. What I love about these shows is how accessible they make history, engaging the audience with songs and shouting, making references to “bottom burps” and stinky smelly things that sometimes get hushed away in your standard history lesson. I think my nephews favorite part was the reference to females pretty much not be allowed to do anything without their husbands or fathers approval in ancient Greek times.
The second part of the show was even more delightful with Horrible Histories exciting “Boggle Vision” and the promise of the Minotaur greeting us from the stage. Armed with our 3D glasses we re-entered the theatre with great trepidation. As our main character was sent off into the labyrinth to slay the Minotaur or be eaten. Comedy, music, dance and the involvement of the audience is all part of the show when you go and see Horrible Histories and it is absolutely magical to watch my own nephews and all the other children respond to the excitement pouring from the stage and creating a wonderful visual and verbal story telling experience.
