Following the tragic news of David Bowies departure from earth back in January following a battle with cancer, the organisers of the well established A Very Messy Christmas are putting on another night of specially selected cover songs. Taking place on Easter Sunday at Blackpool’s Bootleg Social the night will be themed to celebrate the music of Bowie and at the same time raise money for Cancer Research UK.
This isn’t the first time that organisers have put together a night of David Bowie covers, with the first taking place a decade ago at the now defunct Riffs music venue in South Shore. Throughout the night you’ll be treated to fourteen of Blackpool’s finest musical acts blasting out their own interpretations of the Thin White Duke’s musical moments.
On the bill you’ll find former members of Goonies Never Say Die, who were heavily influenced by Bowie and are reuniting for one night only to play an all cover set of his hits from the late 70s to early 80s early. There will also be Bowie laden sets from I Drink Therefore There’s Darkness, Kraul, Laura Catlow, Zauwie, Uncle Paul, Litterbug, Dischord, Du Pig, The Drop-out Wives, Paul Huson, Black Eddy, Stuart Penwarden and Empty Headed Heroes.
Organiser Barry Parkinson said: “David Bowie is an artist whose influence can be heard in the work of a wide variety of musicians and bands, his passing has created a void in the musical landscape that may never be filled. The night has been organised not only as a way to celebrate the music of David Bowie but also a way to raise money for Cancer Research UK.”
Each of the bands will perform a three song set with at least one being a Bowie cover meaning you’ve got a whopping forty-two moments of musical madness to look forward to and with entry by donation before 11pm and at just £3 after that it is a night you don’t want to miss – and you’ll be doing your bit for Cancer Research UK too!
Aladdin Sandune: A Night of David Bowie Covers takes place Sunday 27 March 2016 from 9pm at Bootleg Social, 30 Topping Street, Blackpool, FY1 3AQ. For more information visit the Facebook event or you can like A Very Messy on Facebook to keep up to date with all their upcoming events.
