In search of something to do this week in Blackpool and across the Fylde Coast? Well don’t worry. Here at altBlackpool we’ve been scouring the cultural scene to find the very tip top things to do, right on your doorstep.
1. This Kolossal Kat, that Massive MOG at the Grundy Art Gallery
Blackpool’s Grundy Art Gallery welcomes a new exhibition by artist Mark Leckey. The exhibition centres on Mark’s longstanding interest in Felix the Cat. Which is pretty unusual as exhibitions go. As the title suggests there will be a giant 3D paper model of Felix which visitors can step inside to view video footage created by the artist. Mark is often described as one of the most influential artists working anywhere in the world today, so this is quite a big deal for Blackpool. One not to be missed.
Entry to the exhibition is free and opens Sat 2.30pm to 5pm then running until 13 August. Find out more about the exhibition on the Facebook event.
2. A Still Small Voice at Blott Artist Studios
Tina Warren’s A Still Small Voice is open until the end of the month at Blott Artist Studios (King Street). It’s Tina’s first solo show and as you walk past the studios you can’t help but notice the person suspended in the window. Described as evocative and disturbing at the same time, the exhibition tackles some challenging subject matter. It also gives the audience a chance to see “a behind the scenes tour around an artist’s experiments.”
Entry to the exhibition is free and Blott is open Mon-Sat 10.30am to 3.30pm. Find out more about the exhibition in altBlackpool’s preview.

3. ATOMOS at Blackpool Grand Theatre
Multi-award winning British choreographer and director Wayne McGregor brings his dance show ATOMOS to Blackpool’s Grand Theatre this Wednesday. The show promises to bring thought provoking choreography to the stage with a strong science theme. Inspired by an unnamed 1980s sci-fi film; atomic collisions of movement, sound and light are promised. All combined to create a memorable experience and to delight those who love dance.
ATOMOS shows 7.30pm Wednesday 11 May at Blackpool Grand Theatre. Tickets are priced from £13.50 (with a variety of discounts available) and are available from the Grand Theatre website.
4. Hopeful & Glorious Spring Art Fair at Lytham Hall
Lytham Hall throws open its doors for the Hopeful and Glorious Spring Art Fair on Saturday and Sunday. Featuring a wide selection of art, crafts and design from Northern makers, this is the perfect chance to bag a special purchase. You can also have a chinwag with the very people who made your purchase too. Oh, and did we mention that the tea room is open again if you’re feeling peckish?
Hopeful and Glorious Spring Art Fair is open Sat-Sun 11am to 4pm. Find out more about the fair on the Facebook event.
5. Get Knotted – Beginners Macramé at Charabanc

To celebrate Voluntary Arts Week Blackpool’s own Aunty Social have come up with the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Join them at Charabanc Shop (Coronation Street) during the afternoon to learn all about
Macramé. So exactly what is Macramé? I hear you ask. Well Macramé is the making of textiles using knotting techniques (see, this is educational too). So why not join the Aunties at Charabanc to create your very own plant hanger to take home – better still the whole thing is free, materials too!
Get Knotted is free and is at Charabanc Sat from 12pm to 4pm. Find out more about the workshop on the Facebook event.
