The Wedding Singer heads to Blackpool

The Wedding Singer UK Tour - L-R - Cassie Compton, Ray Quinn, Ruth Madoc, Jon Robyns, Roxanne Pal

The sparkling new production of this hilarious musical, based on the hit film, promises to be the biggest party in town when it comes to the Winter Gardens Blackpool next spring.

The year is 1985, hair is big, greed is good and rock star wannabee Robbie Hart is New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer. However, when his own fiancée dumps him at the altar, Robbie sets out to ensure that every wedding is as disastrous as his own. Will sweet natured Julia and her best friend Holly manage to lure Robbie back into the limelight? Or is she going to head down the aisle with Wall Street bad boy Glen? Only Grandma Rosie seems to be able to see that Julia and Robbie are a couple who are really meant to be together.

Starring Jon Robyn, Ray Quinn, Cassie Compton, Roxanne Parker and Ruth Maddoc, this show is only the second one to be announced by Blackpool Opera House for their 2017 season. It comes shortly after the recent announcement that Wonderland, the musical adventures of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass will run at the theatre next April.

The Wedding Singer, which promises to be an absolutely fantastic show, features a strong cast with Ruth, Roxanne and Ray already having strong Blackpool links having previously performed there.

West End star Jon Robyns plays Robbie Hart. Jon’s most recent success was as Emmett Forest in Legally Blonde, he has also played the part of Enjolras in Les Miserable and appeared in Spamalot and Avenue Q.

Jon is joined by singer/songwriter Ray Quinn as Glen. Ray shot to fame in ITV’s The X Factor in 2006 and as champion of Dancing on Ice in 2009. He also went on to become the programme’s Champion of Champions.

West End leading lady, Cassie Compton, who portrayed Eponine in Les Miserable plays Julie along with Roxanne Parker, best known for her long role as Jo in Emmerdale as her friend Holly.

Last, but definitely by no means least, is veteran comedy actress Ruth Maddoc as Robbie’s grandmother, Grandma Rosie. Ruth became a household name back in the eighties when she played Yellowcoat Gladys Pugh in the hit BBC comedy Hi-De-Hi. She has also appeared in countless TV and stage shows.

Packed with songs which capture all the fun and energy of the original Adam Sandler smash hit film, this is a great opportunity to be part of the party with a musical that is sure to have you up dancing like a dad at a wedding.

The Wedding Singer shows at the Winter Gardens Opera House from Tuesday 4 July to Saturday 8 July 2017. For more information or to book tickets visit www.wintergardensblackpool.co.uk
