Know the Regent? Ok, know the old Rileys Snooker Hall? No? Ok know where Church Street is? This Friday ahead or in the midst of the amazing street art festival, Sand, Sea and Spray The Regent will reopen its doors once again as a Cinema showing cult favourite; Pulp Fiction.

Cinema, I love it! An extension of photography but with an added dimension of dialogue. I know the opening of this event is going to be magical. Radio Lancashire visited the Regent on Tuesday and excitedly led us up a marble staircase to the refurbished balcony complete with seats for couples, tables and access to excellent coffee and beer.

Seats are selling out fast for Friday’s launch but if you miss Friday’s Pulp Fiction you also get the opportunity to book for Back To The Future (personal favourite) on the following evening or Carry On Camping Sunday night (70’s nostalgia with a nod to a cheeky holiday resort).

I am thinking Grease for the future and I know Ferris Bueller is in the pipeline. Ever since The Regent building was acquired there has been lots of chats for its developments with talks of an Arts Centre and studio but eventually the buildings owner,  settled on a successful vintage artifact emporium. I know its successful as I have spent money in there and not on small things either, I bought a dining suite.

Originally opening it doors in 1921, The Regent Cinema boasted 1092 seats and a retractable roof.  It proved to be a popular cinema for decades before it was used for bingo from 1969.

Their future program includes Star Wars, Casablanca and Charlie Chaplin’s, The Gold Rush. Who could want more then to sit in a authentic cinema space to take in the enjoyment from large scale projections of stories we have grown to love through cinema. I hope there is space for independent film makers and local film makers, photographers to showcase stuff for the future.

Who knows what the future could hold for The Regent? I know Christmas is a mile off but a cosy Christmas Shopping event with mulled wine and It’s a Wonderful Life playing on the big screen would be amazing.

Tickets are £7 for a single seat and £14 for a couples seat.

Booking is advisable http://www.regentcinemablackpool.co.uk/

So see you there with your Honey Bunny or Pumpkin and your Royale  and Cheese.
