Blackpool Grand theatre are hosting two free taster sessions on Mondays 10 and 17 October 6,30-8.30pm, to recruit for budding actors and actresses to join their new NT Connections Young Company. Connections is the National Theatre’s Youth Theatre programme that each year provides a platform for young people to perform brand new plays and to network regionally and nationally with other young people aged 14-19.
The aim of Blackpool Grand Theatre’s Young Company is to produce a piece of theatre which will be performed in the Grand Studio, as well as at their Regional Partner venue, alongside other youth theatres from the North West and which might just get to be performed in London on one of the National Theatre’s stages.
This is the second year that Blackpool has taken part in NT Connections and feedback from last year’s participants was fantastic. One member even wrote an article for altblackpool about her experience here and there’s a gallery of images from their performance of Blackout earlier this year at Brewery Theatre, Kendal here. So if you’re aged between 14 and 19 and interested in any aspect of theatre (or know someone who is) then you’re invited to take part.
Any young person who wants to find out more will need to take part in one of the taster sessions on Mondays 10 and 17 October 6.30pm-8.30pm; taking place in the Grand Theatre Studio space. At these sessions they will have the opportunity to take part in practical drama activities (similar to those that will be used in preparation to perform this year’s chosen play), to ask any questions about the theatre world and career opportunities and also to find out more about how the Young Company will work. Interested participants need only need one of the free 2-hour taster sessions. To book, please contact Phil Fairhurst at [email protected]
Those who are selected to become members of the Blackpool Grand Young Company 2016-17 will then take part in weekly, Monday evening sessions 6-9pm which will cost £5 per session, plus £20 for membership. This membership gives young people a range of different benefits and you can find out more at your taster session.
This project is supported by Arts Council England. If you are interested, or have any questions please contact Phil Fairhurst at [email protected] or visit their website, like their Facebook Page or follow them on Twitter @GrandYoungCo.
