altB’s Clancy Mason catches up with Dotty Delightful who talks to us about the special screening of Before The Flood.
CM: Tell us about the film you are screening?
DD: Before the Flood is the film from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Fisher Stevens and Academy Award-winning actor, environmental activist and U.N. Messenger of Peace Leonardo DiCaprio.
Before the Flood presents a riveting account of the dramatic changes now occurring around the world due to climate change, as well as the actions we as individuals and as a society can take to prevent catastrophic disruption of life on our planet. The film follows DiCaprio as he travels to five continents and the Arctic speaking to scientists, world leaders, activists and local residents to gain a deeper understanding of this complex issue and investigates concrete solutions to the most pressing environmental challenge of our time.
CM: Why do you think this particular film is important for people in Blackpool to see?
DD: Climate change affects us all no matter where we live, I feel there is a growing number of people in our town that would really like to make a change and exploring different global, ecological changes will help us move forward in our daily decisions.
CM: The screening starts with a talk by Linda Hampton, can you tell us a little more about her and what we might hear?
DD: Linda Hampton is a Cert Ed, ALAM who has a vast and varied experience as a drama practitioner, actress, singer, writer, director and producer. she is also a keen historian and loves old theatres, she will be giving a talk about the history of the Regent which originally opened in 1921 and has a fully working retractable roof, something very rare in theatres/cinemas.
CM: You’re also providing vegan cake at the event, can you tell us a little bit about our own activism?
DD: I co-run Naked Wild and Free where we believe in living without chemicals, eating clean food that nourishes our bodies, living a purer life and sharing knowledge to be the best you can be. We promote and teach self sufficientcy, growing food, working with nature, foraging and treading gently on the earth.
I am also part of Bohemia Blackpool C.I.C which is made up of 3 different groups who all have wellbeing and happiness at the forefront of their core values. Together we make an awesome trio to help people connect with each other, with nature and with art and creativity.
Helen who is part of the C.I.C has a family-run farm and its magical woodland where you can create, explore, and reconnect with the pleasures of being close to nature. She welcomes you to explore their 288 acres of pastures, woodlands, rivers, ponds and 9 acres of biodynamic gardens that grow herbs and vegetables. She host a variety of native trees, oak, hazel, elder, silver birch and Hawthorne which makes it the perfect place for interacting with wildlife. We like to take people from Blackpool to the farm for various events and workshops.
