Macca: The Concert arrives at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre this month and is set to be a dazzling ‘day trip’ of nostalgia.
Coming off the back of the tremendously successful 2016 musical Let It Be, West End star and leading man Emanuele Angeletti embarks on this new chapter of McCartney/Beatles tribute. Billed as “A celebration of the life and music of legend Paul McCartney”, we will be treated to a musical biography spanning the length and breadth of Macca’s career, undoubtedly one of Britain’s greatest ever songwriters.
The show is split into two halves with the first half comprising of a comprehensive homage to the ’75-‘76 Wings Over The World tour, complete with authentic costumes, staging and production. The second half expands into both McCartney’s solo works as well as favourites from The Beatles era. With so much on offer and with the weight of acclaimed West End performers and state of the art visual projection throughout, this really should be a show to (live and let) die for.
McCartney’s music of course is no stranger to Blackpool. The Liverpool-born maestro made his first performance here with The Beatles in 1963, while on tour with Roy Orbison. They went on to perform in Blackpool seven times during that tour alone, playing at the old ABC and Queen’s theatres. On August 1st 1965, during a Sunday TV show filmed at the ABC, Paul McCartney delivered his first public performance of the song Yesterday – I can only hope Macca: The Concert entertain us with a sublime rendition.
With a career spanning an incredible seven decades, Sir Paul has been nothing short of a phenomenal entertainer, performer and artist. His music has reached millions and without doubt has inspired many others to follow in his esteemed footsteps through becoming musicians – something I can personally attest to.
Many things in life divide us, but music has the power to truly unite people and Macca has been pioneering at the forefront of that vocation for far longer than I have even been alive. Likely nothing will ever be quite as special as seeing the great man himself back on a stage in Blackpool, but with the experience, talent and dedication to craft this cast have shown in previous billings, I’m itching with excitement to see what they can do this time round.
Showing at The Grand Theatre, Blackpool on 31st March, 7:30pm. Call Box Office on 01253 74 33 39 or visit www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk
