Explore a beautiful, breezy vision of Blackpool through the ages this summer with Retroscope family archive film day.
The event is brought to you by voluntary arts organisation Aunty Social and the Winter Gardens Trust as part of a Blackpool Winter Gardens Film Festival in collaboration with the BFI’s ‘Britain on Film’ Coast and Sea season. Retroscope asks families to step back in time for a day of penny farthing riding, Edwardian dress up, creative workshops, seaside adventure theatre and walk around screenings.
Films chosen from the BFI and North West Film Archive collections will give people the chance to step back in time and discover a world of archive film full of bustling beaches, seaside hi-jinks and and all the fun of the fair in the Pavilion of Blackpool Winter Gardens.
With brand new performance pieces from The Electric Sunshine Project, you can witness characters literally ‘step out’ of the archive films to tell you all about their time in Blackpool.
There will be plenty of family-friendly activities on the day too. You can learn to ride a penny farthing or take to the stage as a side-show plate-spinner. Giggle along with Rhubarb Theatre’s ‘Big Dippers’ as they have a splashy, slapstick day out at the beach or make a beach flag from recycled materials. It promises to be a fun packed day in the Pavilion.
With a super-affordable price tag and all of the cheeky thrills of heyday Blackpool, Retroscope offers something for the whole family.
Take a look at the full line up. Tickets are on sale now priced at £2 per adult. Children go free. For more information or to book tickets click here.
