Fantasmagorical Fun at Fifty

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

It’s a much asked quiz question, but many are surprised at the answer when told that one of the world’s favourite films was based on a novel by James Bond creator Ian Fleming. But that isn’t the only link to the ‘shaken not stirred’ secret agent as the film was actually produced by Albert. R. Broccoli, the regular co-producer of the James Bond series of films. I wonder if that is why there are similarities between Bond’s ‘Q’ and ‘Chitty’s’ Caracatus Potts? But there is another name in the credits of the film that I must admit I didn’t know, and it’s none other than children’s author Roald Dahl who, along with director Ken Hughes wrote the film we all know and love.

Chitty Chitty Bang BangThis year, Blackpool and the Fylde Light Opera Company, are bringing Chitty to the stage right here at the Grand Theatre to celebrate fifty years of the musical. Yes, that’s right Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is fifty years old. The show will have audiences of all ages flying high with its mixture of madness, intrigue and exuberance, all created by the brilliant amateur company, who have had much success and received incredible reviews for their productions of some of the world’s best musicals in previous years.Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Can the lovable but whacky inventor, Caracatus Potts, along with his two children and the gorgeous Truly Scrumptious outwit the bombastic Baron Bomburst who has decreed that all children be banished from his kingdom? What happens when the children are caught and imprisoned with the other youngsters by the evil child Catcher? Will it all end happily after? Well of course it will!

Filled with amazing stage spectacle and unforgettable songs, including the Academy Award nominated tile song, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will take you on a fantastical music adventure with an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas in a high flying, fun filled adventure for the whole family.
