Lockdown rather scuppered ART B&B‘s plan to open for a glorious first summer season. However, we heard on the grapevine that they are due to open very soon with full covid compliance and a seal of approval from Visit England.
Leading up to a heavily anticipated reopening, we discovered a rather charming happening due to launch on the 24th July. We caught up with Mykey J Young, a Blackpool born and bred cultural producer who told us all about the forthcoming Lip Synching, Pyjama wearing, cocktail extravaganza aptly titled The Virtual, Arty Art B&B Pyjama Party. Try saying that after a few Cosmopolitans.
On the 24th July Mykey presents a special final episode of his popular radio show, The Weekly Kiki celebrating the hotels forthcoming reopening. Register on the Facebook page here and accompany Mykey J Young virtually as he creates his own Art B&B takeover.
Mykey told us that the original radio show idea was created as a welcome distraction during lockdown to entertain himself and new lockdown audiences, founded on the principles of “being a celebration of all things fabulous.”
The Weekly Kiki might be a proud warm up to that thing we used to know as the weekend (I know some of the days are blurring into one for some of us in lockdown) and in this case a prelude to the opening of the Art B&B. Mykey says the show takes inspiration from the famous Scissor Sisters song quote ...Lock the doors, lower the blinds, fire up the smoke machine and put on your heels as you are invited to take a journey with Mykey into true high camp inspired musical adventure complimented nicely by a virtual tour of the intriguing Art B&B.
The hotel does seem somewhat virtually untouched by humans currently, crisp, clean and oh so new and boasts rooms designed by artists such as Mark Titchner nominated for The Turner Prize in 2006 as well as Dr Marisa Carnesky’s whose room is inspired by legendary Blackpool showgirls accompanied by audio accessible by placing your ear to a vintage telephone.
