A Discovery of Witches is a new exhibition of artwork by local artists Kathy Rowan and Mark Hetherington, that explores different aspects of what is meant by ‘Witch’.
Kathy Rowan is a visionary artist, living and working in Blackpool. She works with charcoal, paint, wax and resin and is inspired by feminine spirituality, fantasy and myths. Her atmospheric style is designed to create a sense of the mysterious; to question the boundaries between the seen and unseen realities. In this exhibition she references planetary magic with her vibrant resin planets. Her work also features some of the sacred sites where modern-day witches gather.
Mark is also based in Blackpool and has long been fascinated by the Early Modern witch trials which occurred between 1500 – 1750. He sees parallels between the witch trials and many current events and movements. He works in a variety of media and also produces work based on mental health as well as being a freelance illustrator.
Find out more about the artists by visiting Kathy’s website and Mark’s website.
The exhibition runs from 22 October to 2 December 2020 at HIVE, 80-82 Church St, Blackpool, FY1 1HP. The café is open from 9am – 5pm every day.
The exhibition is on the ground floor and has good single-level access.
