This Friday local gallery space Supercollider opens its latest exhibition Tourist Information Center to coincide with Easter Bank Holiday weekend and the start of Blackpool’s traditional tourist season. In this latest exhibition Supercollider brings together works by a range of artists working across a variety of media and includes works which have been seen in the gallery before and some which are brand new additions.
Established in 2008, Supercollider has used a variety of sites across Blackpool for its exhibitions, the location being a core part of its programming agenda. Having previously been supported through the Blackpool Culture Shops Initiative, the programme aims to be responsive, to seek out connections and establish a dialogue with Blackpool’s rich and unique heritage and contemporary culture.
Tourist Information Center includes work by Linzi Cason, James Clarkson, Yannick Dixon, Nina Konnemann, Rebecca Lennon, Murray O’Grady and Matilda Moors, Joseph Pegler, Candida Powell-Williams and Fiona Shaw as well as selected archive and contemporary images and curatorially driven content.
Speaking about Tourist Information Center in their e-bulletin Supercollider said:
Whilst seemingly disconnected as individual elements the works conspire to communicate a sensibility of place, presenting an exhibition as a manual for understanding.
The preview evening for Tourist Information Center takes place on Friday 29 March 2013 from 7-9pm at Supercollider, 59 Cookson Street. The exhibition runs until 11 May 2013.
