For those both local and distant, Blackpool is undoubtedly one of the most distinctive locations in the UK. With a rich cultural heritage spanning hundreds of years, our town certainly has plenty of tales to tell.
That’s where StoryTrails comes in: an immersive technology-driven experience that puts Blackpool’s unique identity on the map. This weekend, Central Library (located on Queen’s Street) will welcome guests of all ages to explore untold stories of the past and present. The two-day event is completely free to attend and offers residents of Blackpool the chance to experience their locale in ways never seen before.
As well as innovative VR encounters that bring real-world stories to life, attendees will also get the chance to embark on a tour of the town, uncovering secrets through the power of augmented reality. By remixing archival footage from BFI and BBC archives and collecting stories from the modern age, StoryTrails gives people the opportunity to see Blackpool in a new light. You can take a ride through our eclectic LGBTQIA+ history, hear from iconic faces from across the town and see locals in action: all supported by transformational technology.
StoryTrails is a new initiative, developed and launched by UNBOXED. On a mission to support the growth of creativity by bringing 10 awe-inspiring new projects to life, UNBOXED brings science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics together to offer unmissable events and experiences across the country.
The Blackpool Social Club team headed down to Central Library to give the experience a whirl, and we can safely say it’s worth the visit.
Visit the StoryTrails website to learn more about the project or show up this weekend (16th-17th July between 9am-5pm) to watch the spirit of Blackpool unfold before your eyes.
The event is completely free to attend and is suitable for all ages.
