Showtown, museum of fun and entertainment seek artist to work with Young People

Blackpool Council is seeking an individual or a company to design and deliver artwork for the hoardings surrounding the Showtown new museum building in co-production with the young people of Blackpool. https://www.showtownblackpool.co.uk/join/careers/artworker

The successful artist or artist group will work with Showtown and their Young People’s Steering Group. Blackpool is described as internationally significant as the world’s first mass seaside resort. Today it remains the byword for the seaside holiday worldwide. However, this amazing success story has never been told – until now.  Showtown is now entering its most exciting stage as they work toward the opening of
the new Museum in March 2024.

Showtown’s Young People’s Steering Group was formed in April 2022 and is made up of nine 11-16
year olds from the local area. Together they have been sharing their ideas for Showtown as well as engaging in several creative practices including; window art, portrait work, creative writing plus much more. As building work on the Showtown site continues, we are looking for an artist(s) to work with us and our Young People’s Steering Group to create artwork to be displayed on the hoardings around the Showtown site.

Showtown are looking for an individual or a company with a proven track record of developing and creating artistic
projects with young people.
Working with Showtown and the Young People’s Steering Group, the primary purpose of this
contract is to:
• Consult with the Showtown team and Showtown’s Young People’s Steering Group to plan,
develop and create a large-scale outdoor artwork (53m x 2.4m)
• To facilitate and explore the creative process with the young people
• Create an original artwork of high artistic quality in line with Showtown’s branding
• Facilitate and support young people to make their artistic visions come to life
Project objectives
• To work with professional artists to aesthetically improve the hoardings surrounding the
Showtown building
• Encourage young people to use their artwork to express a sense of place and identity and
make a temporary change to the environment
• Increase participants’ understanding and awareness of art and how to use it as a form of
expression
• Visually connect the hoardings to the vision and branding of Showtown.
