May has arrived and that can mean only one thing, a new exhibition is opening at Caffe Dolce. This month’s exhibition will see local artists Catch 22 and Garth Gratrix’s work on display in Blackpool’s artiest coffee shop and on Friday evening you are invited to the preview.
A great chance to meet the artists in person, network with local creatives and sample some of Caffe Dolce’s coffee and cake, it is an evening not to be missed. Door are open from 6pm and 8pm so whether you’re just finishing a busy week at work or heading into town for drinks this is a perfect start to your Friday night.
Linzi Cason, local photographer, organises the monthly exhibitions at Caffe Dolce and we caught up with her to find out what motivates her to run the exhibitions, she told us:
It’s really great to see so many local artists of all disciplines exhibit in a town centre location. I started doing the exhibitions because I want to show that there are lots of talented people in Blackpool, it’s important to give locals the opportunity as it’s the only exhibition space in Blackpool which doesn’t require you to have either a degree or qualification or require you to be a member of the venue.
Catch 22 is showing some of his work which has been influenced by modern art, street art and futurism. We spoke to Catch 22 to find out more about his work and the inspiration behind it and he told us:
The work in the exhibition is a series of pieces that document a transition period in my work, my older work was two separate entities; one set abstract and the other portrait This new work is me bringing the two together. Normally my work has a few themes which I’ve been working with for a several years that have continued and evolved over time. I’m looking at technology and in some ways my mistrust of it, also the way we’re surrounded by different waves that we can’t see or feel from televisions, phones and the internet and trying to visualise that with beams and shards of colour surrounding and passing through the figure.
Also showing work as part of the exhibition is Garth Gratrix whose freehand illustrations on canvas share common themes of object and place. Speaking about his work Garth told us:
This exhibition will seek to showcase and develop a selection of current and new works in relation to one another. I hope to show people where I’ve come from as I suggest where I may potentially go in the future as an artist based in Blackpool.
With two fantastic local artists exhibiting this month, Caffe Dolce’s May Exhibition is certainly one not to be missed.
