On Sunday I attended Cowbell Radio’s 1st Birthday at Blackpool Cricket Club. Billed as the presenters party, it was really an open invitation for all the presenters, family, friends and listeners to kick back and enjoy something very relaxed. Starting early at 4pm, the barbeque was smoking and tunes were drifting across the cricket pitch lifting the already high spirits of the attendees who were looking forward to enjoying the unique feeling that only Cowbell Radio provides on a sunny bank holiday Sunday.

A family friendly event, there were plenty of children enjoying the wide open space of the cricket pitch. Adults could enjoy the already cheap bar away from the touristy Blackpool and sometimes expensive pub prices whilst Cowbell Radio Dj’s took it in turns to entertain with their own unique tunage.

I should also mention enjoying what can only be described as a sublime barbeque burger followed by laying back on the freshly cut grass to enjoy some great music with some like minded music fans. The atmosphere was light and friendly and the music varied. Cowbell have spent a lot of time through the last year, supporting local artists and designers as well as trying creating something original for Blackpool and its wider audience.

As night fell, guests retreated to The Cricket Club bar where people overflowed to the terraces and enjoyed excellent music and company into the early hours.

If you have not tuned in to Cowbell Radio – you should. Cowbell’s biggest event of the year is due at the end of May with Alfresco, another family friendly event. Prices are extremley cheap for whats on offer and with free parking a cheap bar and childrens entertainment. Can you afford to miss it?
