Call Margaret Rutherford by Jacqueline Pilton

From her role as the earthy cleaner, Mavis Cathcart, in Emmerdale to walking the cobbles of Coronation Street, Jacqueline Pilton has appeared on our screens in numerous popular television programmes.

Performing at Wordpool Festival in 2012, Pilton is no stranger to Blackpool Library Service. Her fantastic performance in Travels with my Boggart guarantees a strong audience at her new one woman play, Call Margaret Rutherford.

Call Margaret Rutherford is based on the tumultuous life of Oscar-winning actress, Margaret Rutherford, who rose to prominence during World War II. Her vast and varied roles turned Rutherford into a household name as a beloved stage and film actress.

Pilton herself stars as Rutherford, as she arrives on her bicycle having been summoned from the afterlife during a rehearsal of Blithe Spirit. Upon entrance, she begins to address the audience in her familiar comedic way- revealing unusual and fascinating secrets still largely unknown today.  Agatha Christie fans may know Margaret Rutherford from her portrayal of much loved book character, Miss Marple.
