Musical comedy duo Black Liver – aka Ruth Cockburn and Keith Carter – are hosting Library Quest, a quiz like no other in Blackpool Central Library… with booze.
As part of Libraries Week, on 5th October Black Liver invites you to assemble a team of five and get your detective skills ready. They’ll be hosting an interactive quiz where they will delegate a number of tasks and you will have to uncover their clues, decipher their riddles, and unlock the secrets hidden within the library’s walls. In between going off on various tangents, Ruth and Keith tell us what to expect.
Ruth: Hello I’m called Ruth because my parents couldn’t put ‘happy accident’ on the birth certificate.
Keith: And I’m called Keith because my parents hate me.
Ruth: I’m from Blackpool. He’s from Liverpool.
Keith: And that makes us Black Liver.
Ruth: I suppose you’d call us a musical comedy duo. But we do funnies without the guitars as well.
Keith: So what’s this Library Quest all about then? Well it’s your average, run of the mill, zany off the wall extravaganza where the laughs will be peppered with high octane action and bitter rivalries. And there’s booze.
Ruth: It’s a comedy quiz show where groups will do a number of tasks such as build a literary character out of household objects. Or perform a scene from a book.
Keith: And there’s booze. Don’t forget the important bit.
Ruth: Me and Keith are the hosts and judges for the show. So it should be a good laugh.
Keith: And I will be a fair judge. But cross me and I will strike with all the force and might that the law allows me.
Ruth: You’re not that kind of judge, Kieth. We’re there to provide the comedy and get the show bouncing.
Keith: Don’t worry, there’s booze. I’ll be bouncing.
Ruth: We were asked to host Library Quest after we did our comedy musical Support Your Local Library! A Gothic Pub Rock Opera.
Keith: That night was amazing. It was packed. We were in Blackpool Library but it was a legit gig. As good a show than we’ve done in any theatre.
Ruth: Blackpool Library is fantastic for shows. We’ve been to quite a few.
Keith: We stumbled into it by accident a year or so ago. Ended up watching a full psychedelic rock gig. Like a Happening from the ‘60s. Class.
Ruth: And when we got the opportunity to put our tour show on, we jumped at the chance.
Keith: So it was a no brainer when we were asked to do Library Quest. We said yes immediately. It’s going to be hilarious. Hilarity and literary.
Ruth: There’s still some tickets available – I think. I saw someone having to sell theirs on our Facebook page the other day.
Keith: The show’s that popular they’re selling on the black market, eh?
Ruth: Ignore Keith. You can still get them from Blackpool Library’s website. Or just go in and get them.
Keith: And why not form a group and join the Library Quest? There’s actual prizes, I believe. Like two tickets to our show.
Ruth: Losers get ten tickets to our show. Boom. Tish.
Keith: I might compose a theme song for the night. Actually ON the night. And the teams can judge me.
Ruth: You’re asking for trouble, you know.
Keith: There’s booze. I’ll be the trouble, believe me.
Ruth: He’s joking. Keith after a drink gets super friendly.
Keith: So everyone will be getting prizes on the night.
Ruth: Probably people that aren’t even on a team.
