Wordpool 2013 Round Up

Wordpool

Next Thursday sees the return of Wordpool, Blackpool’s annual festival of literature and this year there is something for everyone from author visits to a musical cinematic treat, a comedy poet to a full day of fun with tiny worlds for the whole family to explore.

Wordpool kicks off on Thursday the 4th July from 10.30am with a special word jam by Blackpool Rollercoasters and a live performance by Revoe Community Choir on the Tower Festival Headland. Later in the day we are treated to author visits Freda Lightfoot at Anchorsholme Library and Matt Hilton at Layton Library.

In the evening Aunty Social’s Wordpool Screen returns for a second year with a rare chance to see musical classic Little Shop of Horrors at Blackpool Winter Gardens. Also on offer on Thursday evening, Deborah Morgan comes to Palatine Library and Elly Griffiths is at Moor Park Library talking about her latest mystery, featuring a murder in Fleetwood and Blackpool’s famous Big One.

Friday brings more writer visits with author Elizabeth Freemantle inviting you to join her for coffee at 10.30am, followed by a chance for you to give members of the murder squad a grilling over lunch with crime writers Kate Ellis and Martin Edward at Central Library.

The afternoon gives you the chance to learn some skills with David Riley sharing his expertise on writing a one act play from 2.30pm and then from 6pm head down to Cafe No5 to join the Dead Good Poets for an evening of poetry with comedic poet Trevor Meaney from 6pm.

Saturday sees the festival take on a family focus with the Tiny Worlds day at Stanley Park from 1pm. There will be a range of activities on offer for all the family including a performance of Alice in a Spin, a chance to make some Japanese birds in the fragrance garden, the opportunity to help illustrate the bookworm’s giant book and rounded off with a tiny worlds picnic.
