Poulton’s best live music venue, The Old Town Hall, is hosting Rock the Mic: Kai’s Big Weekend, a jam-packed session of local bands, performers and quality entertainers all in aid of the Kai’s New Legs Appeal.
All acts are working for free in aid of this great cause, their usual fees being donated to the fundraising pot.
Friday 2 August will kick off at 9 pm and include music from The Heat and the Keytars, followed by Kazzobian and Shiver on the Saturday at 8:30pm. The big event will conclude Sunday from 7pm with live music from Jekyll, The People, The Solid States and Atmospherics as well as entertainment from Joe Marcell featuring The Sweet Aspirations, Tony Just and Showbiz Kidz.
So get down to Poulton for a weekend of class entertainment and quality real ale served by a quick and friendly bar team to make the most of the summer and raise some money at the same time!
Kai Hodgkinson is a little boy from Fleetwood who has had the odds stacked against him at every turn. Born with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, it was originally thought that Kai would never be able to walk. But after a lot of hard work, he managed to take his first steps last year. But the fight is not over. Kai is currently unable to walk unaided but is determined not to let that hold him back. A form of surgery called selective dorsal rhizotomy along with intensive therapy, which would involve stimulating the nerves in his spinal cord, could allow him to straighten his legs and finally be able to run and play with his friends and brothers as he has always wanted to do.
The success rate of this surgery is highly increased in younger patients and it is therefore vital that funds are raised as quickly as possible. A heady £58,000 is needed to send Kai to St Louis Hospital in Missouri so every contribution counts.
If you can’t make it to The Big Weekend you can still donate by heading to www.justgiving.com/kickstartforkai and giving what you can!
