Illuminations Switch-On: Unscripted exit for Irish rockers

I Love Blackpool

Headline act, The Script, has been forced to pull out of Friday’s Blackpool Illuminations concert.

The Irish rockers took the difficult decision because of a family matter. In a statement, the band’s management said: “It is with deepest regret that The Script have had to cancel the Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On concert due to a sudden serious family illness.” They also cancelled tomorrow night’s show at Leeds Academy.

Natalie Wyatt, Managing Director of Marketing Blackpool, said: “We are deeply saddened that The Script have been forced to cancel their Blackpool Illuminations gig but we totally understand and appreciate that personal family matters take priority and our thoughts are with the band and their families at this time.

We are currently working with artist management to secure a replacement act for Friday’s Switch-On and will announce this information as soon as we are able to. The weekend will still go ahead.

Eliza Doolittle is still set to appear at the event at the Tower Festival Headland. The Illuminations switch-on will be performed by TV chat show host Jonathan Ross.

Tickets for Madness on Saturday at the same venue are still available at £20.

Full refunds are available to people who bought tickets for The Script. You must have proof of purchase and obtain the refund from the point of purchase.
