Linzi Cason is a busy woman, and Christmas sees her busier than ever! The local photographer and designer is the force behind Squirrel & Tiffin, whose wares are flying off the shelves at Shop Boutique this festive season. She took a break from her hectic schedule to chat to Sandra Mangan.
Please tell me a little about yourself and what you make.
My name is Linzi Cason and I am a local photographer who uses my imagery for screen print. I make various products from cushions to wall art and also run creative workshops.
Describe a favourite piece you have created.
One of my favourite pieces I’ve created is the tea cosy (currently being stocked at Shop Boutique!), as the shape of the Blackpool Central Pier wheel was perfect for the shape of a tea cosy โ and still had the theme of Blackpool, which is what I am trying to create.
What is different about your work?
My work is different as I use my own imagery for screen print. Others may use found imagery or designs but I have a good control over the work I produce as it all stems from my own photos.
What are your best sellers this Christmas?
Best sellers are my Blackpool Tower cushions. They give people a piece of Blackpool’s heritage in their own home, while others send them abroad to people who used to live in Blackpool many years ago. It’s iconic and well made โ so I am always making orders!
Where can our readers buy from you?
Until 21 December, people can buy from Shop Boutique, in St John’s Square, here in Blackpool. You’ll also find my work at Landbaby in the Bluecoat in Liverpool and the Tourist Information Centre on Blackpool promenade as well.ย People can contact me via social media by searching for Squirrel & Tiffin โ and my site will be up and running in 2014!
What are your plans for 2014?
January 2014 is my solo exhibition and there will be free workshops held at the old Disney Store in Blackpool. The exhibition is on for a month, ย so after that I will be starting a new range โ ย watch this space!
The Squirrel & Tiffin exhibition preview evening is Friday 3 January 2014 from 6-8pm and everyone is welcome. More information about the project is on the website.
