Calling all Budding Puppeteers!

Showzam! is a wonderful event that the whole family can get involved in as there are so many different workshops, shows and events both free and paid for that will appeal to all.

So says Councillor Cain, Blackpool Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure.  Evidence of this bold claim comes in the form of the interactive puppet experience, available for free to local school children thanks to the innovative creative team at Visit Blackpool.

Showzam! is Blackpool’s annual festival of circus, magic and new variety which blasts into town over the half-term week; 14 – 23 February.  This year, Visit Blackpool will is inviting local schoolchildren from across the Fylde Coast and Lancashire to put their creativity to the test. Four hundred school children will receive exclusive Showzam! finger puppets to customise, along with a miniature stage, enabling them to create their very own puppet show.

The free characters include a cave woman, panda, mermaid and magician with accessories all ready to colour in and put together on the Showzam! website.  Puppeteers can also film their characters and upload online to win a bumper pack of Showzam! tickets.

This year’s festival includes children’s shows, workshops and tours, along with street theatre and some exclusive Showzam! performances. Organisers are hoping to attract thousands of  families to the resort, to participate and enjoy a spectacle with its roots in Blackpool’s entertainment heritage.

Showzam! 2014  brings children’s favourite, Sooty, with friends Soo and Sweep; the extraordinary B the Underwater Bubble Show; family show Meet the Hogwallops; No Fit State Circus and a variety of street performers who will be popping up all over town.

Adding a touch of glamour, the Showzam! Carnival Ball returns for its seventh year in the opulent Blackpool Tower Ballroom as a celebration of 50’s rock n’ roll, hosted by Amy Lamé, co-founder of the Olivier Award winning performance group Duckie.  Lamé will be presenting the best from the weird and wonderful world of variety and cabaret so get your tickets early and be a part of the action.
