Last week I had the pleasure of receiving a phone call from a very excited young man. Only last month we featured local DJ Ben Marshall here on altblackpool and after interviewing him I did ask him to keep us in the loop on any developments in his career. As expected, Ben didnt let me down. I answered the call to a fine young fella who, through being recognised for his hard work and skill, has been invited to London to play a set at the legendary Ministry Of Sound and one further one at Pacha on 3 May. He will be in very good company on the night of Saturday 29 March at the Ministry Of Sound, performing alongside some very renowned DJs, including Frankie Knuckles. This gig also incorporates a boat party and sounds pretty exciting to say the least. Before then though, Ben is to be interviewed by Radio One Newsbeat on March 19, it has emerged. Wow!
It is without doubt a feather in the cap for Ben and the dream gigs couldn’t have landed at a better time, as it is his birthday on the day of the Pacha appearance. I would say that is a pretty awesome birthday gift and very well deserved. He told me in his call that these particular gigs for an upcoming DJ are the equivalent of a band securing a spot at Glastonbury, so you can imagine he was quite chuffed and honoured to have been invited to play. And why not indeed!
Adding the Ministry Of Sound and Pacha gigs to his already impressive portfolio will hopefully springboard Ben on to much bigger things, after all that is his aim. He already harbours an ambition to get Radio One airplay in 2014 with his work and these dates at two of the country’s finest clubs will provide every chance of that coming to fruition. On top of this great news, Ben has also been booked to play more locally at Bowlers Warehouse in Manchester on July 25. So, he’s going to be a busy fella.
We certainly look forward to Ben reporting back to us when he returns with the news on how the gigs went and his experience of each night.
In the meantime, keep up with Ben and the latest news and developments over at his personal website and also on his Facebook and Twitter pages.
