This Sunday, 6th April, for one night only, the world famous Pasadena Roof Orchestra (or PRO for short) heads to Blackpool to jazz up our glorious Grand Theatre, on the seaside leg of their current tour.
Founded back in 1969 and with over 300 musical numbers recorded, the famed orchestra, in spite of frequent line-up changes, has succeeded in building a great reputation over the years, and remains a firm favourite among swing-era music lovers!
As this widely celebrated ensemble takes centre stage for an evening of big band, swing, jazz and dance, at the beautiful Blackpool Grand Theatre venue, let compère and singer Duncan Galloway and his talented eleven-piece band take you on a journey back in time, to a gentler era, for an hour or two!
Dating back to 1894, The Grand Theatre is my neighbourhood stage and akin to The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, ‘Matcham’s Masterpiece’ (as The Grand is widely known) was going strong during World War One and throughout the 1920s, remaining open to show hit musicals and plays, keeping spirits high! The Grand continues to stage some of the finest shows today and the PRO is no exception.
So, lose yourself a little in the magic of a 1920s, 30s and 40s repertoire of classics, in Blackpool’s long-established, antiquated theatre setting, as traditional architecture and classic swing reunite in a charming amalgamation, this weekend. Head on down to witness an unforgettable evening of lively and lovely adaptations of Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong and Fred Astaire’s greatest hits (to name but a few).
Book tickets online, by phone (on 01253 290 190) or at the Church Street box office.
