Lumidogs

Lumidogs

Saturday 23 August saw the first of four artist led Lumidogs workshops at Memorial Park, Fleetwood. Of course I had to go along with Molly, my Border Terrier pupster, and find out more. Is there a more perfect way to spend a sunny Bank Holiday afternoon than with a group of fellow dog enthusiasts AND tinkering with lights? During my efforts to fashion a Molly-Tron outfit by sewing a string of multi coloured LEDs onto a dog jacket whilst Molly tried to entice the other dogs into a game of wrestling mayhem, I had a chat to light artist Jo…

Gallery: Rebellion 2014 – Part One

This year's Rebellion has been and gone.  Revellers have taken their tartan, studs and anarchistic glee back to the four corners of the globe and Blackpool seems a littler sadder for their departure.  If you are missing the vibrancy of the punk festival weekend already, fear not.  Dawn and Jill of Two Old Birds With Cameras spent the weekend taking some remarkable shots.  There's more attitude than you can shake a battered mic stand at.  Come back tomorrow for the other half of this stupendous gallery.

Blackpool Air Show 2014

Blackpool Air Show 2014

If you noticed some rumblings coming from overhead this weekend, you'd have been forgiven for assuming that Bertha was trumping her way across the heavens.  Not so.  The Fylde Coasts's skies were alive with the purring of whatever witchcraft it is that keeps tonnes of metal up in the air for hours.  They were hard to miss, particularly if, like photographer Jo Harley-Hynes, you were standing beneath them.  So, for all you aviophiles (yes, I had to look that up) Here's a glimpse of what she saw on Sunday.   All images courtesy of Jo Harley-Hynes.

Big Weekend: Lytham Proms 2014

It's the time of year when music lovers glance fearfully at the sky and offer suitable tokens to whatever deity they imagine might have a hand in controlling the weather. Lytham Proms is upon us and this year it can't have escaped your attention that the man with the tan, Sir Tom Jones, is going to grace us with his gyrating presence. But there are three evenings of sterling entertainment to be had at this fifth anniversary of the Proms, just look at this line up: Friday 1 August: 80s vs 90s Captain Sensible Hue & Cry Brother Beyond The…

Pop Up Art at The Mount Pavilion

Pop Up Art at The Mount Pavilion

A much-loved fishing town to the north of the Fylde, Fleetwood's layout was originally planned by Decimus Burton, the acclaimed architect associated with notable buidlings at London Zoo and the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.  As well as Fleetwood, he was the principle planner for the layout of St Leonards-on-Sea and Tunbridge Wells. Sir Peter Hesketh Fleetwood commissioned Burton to design the town and some of the famous structures are still visible: The North Euston Hotel, St Peters Church, and Pharos Lighthouse.  The town was built around a focal point which stood high up above the coastline.  The original pagoda…
