Fleetwood is in the market for creatives

Fleetwood is in the market for creatives

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Linda Hampton reveals news of the Market House Studios for arts practitioners, above Fleetwood Market. Last year Wyre Council invited local creative practitioners to view the mysterious upstairs rooms over Fleetwood Market. I went along with a posse of my peers to have a peek into spaces that hadn’t been touched for decades. Over two floors the rooms, dating back to 1891, were spacious, although filled with detritus from years of storage, with peeling walls and cracked windows. The exciting news was that major funding had been obtained from the Coastal Communities Fund to transform the building into versatile…

Open Studio: Fine Artist, Tina Dempsey.

Above the hustle and bustle of the town centre a collective of artists share a space that is well known for drawing in some of the best contemporary practitioners in the area. The entrance to this studio is a large brown door nestled between two shop fronts on a busy shopping street in Blackpool town centre. After a small argument with a gate on my way in and a short trip up the driveway I was greeted at the door by a cheerful and welcoming array of family members (including a friendly Boxer dog named Stanley) into Carla’s home. A busy household tucked away on a…

Open Studio May 2018: Fine Artist, Andy Ostin

Last month we visited local artist Sam Jayne Simpson at her studio in Blackpool. For May’s edition of Open Studio we head down the coast to meet Andy Ostin in his St. Anne's studio and to peek at the space he shares with another creative, Leo Smyth. Behind the main shopping street at the heart of St Annes is a maze of back alleys teeming with activity. Artist studios and antique stores rub shoulders with plant shops and other curiosities behind a row of old Victorian houses. Off one of these alleyways is a narrow ginnel tucked away from the…
