Blackpool Music School has recently taken on new tutor and co-director, Douglas Slade, who boasts top qualifications in brass tuition and is a skilled trumpet and cornet player, including years of professional jazz, dance and big band experience. John Shaw, co-director and founder of BMS has said โwe are very excited to have suchย a qualified and knowledgeable tutor on board; he will be an asset to the School!โ Douglas and all BMS tutors are qualified to take students through their graded exams, or teach simply for the enjoyment of music.
BMS is a charity funded school, and is a part of the Blackpool Music Academy, based at Waterloo Road in Blackpoo; it is dedicated to offering students value-for-money, quality music tuition, delivered by highly qualified music professionals and also offers instruments for sale. This term, BMS saw a 100% exam pass rate including several Distinction level achievements, which is a result the academy can be proud of and strives to consistently obtain. Such results and success would not of course be achievable without the amazing support of the tutors, a host of volunteers, donations and a lot of time and hard work!
The registered charity organisation (no. 1120716) is kindly supported by Lancashire County Council, The National Lottery, the Community Foundation for Merseyside, the Co-Operative Foundation, and a long list of businesses across the Fylde coast. Nearly everything on BMSโ premises has been gratefully contributed by these local companies and the School is enormously grateful for donations; all of the furniture, carpets, the kitchen, tiles and even instruments are fruits of generous, local support. Thanks to this backing, Blackpool Music School has been enabled to develop considerably since it was first established in 2006 and has seen over 300 accomplished students pass through its doors. The evolution of the school has seen them go from teaching 22 to now over 100 students per week! And theyโre always looking to increase this number, as well as enrolling talented new music tutors.
Some of the schoolโs students choose to receive dedicated, one-to-one tuition, while a number prefer the companionship of a group class and can learn guitar, drums or keyboard with other learners; group students are assured to be moved up to higher classes as they advance, as BMS understands the importance of personal progression.
Home tutoring is also available for disabled students and the building features full disabled access. Whether learning for fun and enjoyment or for important exams, Blackpool Music School welcomes anyone, from ages 7 to 103!
On-site tuition is offered 7 days a week. Thereโs a coffee shop and food menu (which includes their legendary full English breakfast) and free wi-fi, so itโs easy to make yourself at home. Soon, the school will be introducing an over-55s beginners keyboard group and aย 7-16 yearsย beginners guitar group.ย Thereโs really something for everyone at all levels; BMS teaches most instruments, endeavours to keep costs minimal and offers a calm and friendly environment in which to develop.
Head along between 1:15pm and 3:00pm to the schoolโs free, light entertainment gathering every Thursday afternoon; ask questions and see what itโs all about. Blackpool Music School encourages you to get in touch and get involved!
