Two of Blackpool’s oldest established singing groups are getting together for their first ever joint concert. Blackpool Soundwaves a capella chorus and Blackpool Male Voice Choir will take ‘A Journey Through the Ages’ at Greenlands St Anne’s Church in Blackpool on Friday night.
Blackpool Soundwaves were founded 32 years ago and 2014 looks to be their busiest year yet. A successful Learn to Sing course run in January (and featured here on altBlackpool) resulted in numbers doubling and the now 40 strong chorus is preparing to compete in the Ladies’ Association of British Barbershop Singers national convention in Harrogate in October.
Soundwaves chairman Sue Andrew said: “We are having a fantastic year – we’ve sung on BBC radio, on Stanley Park Bandstand and in the Lord Mayor’s Parlour, so it is a thrill to be appearing with Blackpool Male Voice Choir for our first concert together. We will be singing songs old and new and it should be a great get-together for two of the longest standing choirs in Blackpool.”
The Blackpool Male Voice Choir was formed in 1923 in the heart of Blackpool at Raikes Parade Methodist Church. They have sung everywhere from local church halls to the Royal Albert Hall and they are looking forward to their latest concert date.
Chairman Paul Barker said: “We always enjoy concerts and it will be a nice contrast to sing alongside a close harmony chorus because we each have our own style. It promises to be a great night of music. As well as singing as a group and creating that distinctly male voice choir sound, we will have some solos in the programme too.”
‘A Journey Through The Ages’ is at Greenlands St Anne’s Church, Salmesbury Avenue, Blackpool on Friday, September 5 from 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £5, are available on the door.
