It gets under your skin. I haven’t left an all-nighter or any Northern Soul venue without feeling part of a bigger thing, a family you might say. There is always a smile and a nod of the head as we hit the dance floor.

You can’t have missed the hit film Northern Soul which was released at the end of last year. There is, and always will be, the hard-core ‘soulers’ whose weekends are planned around Northern Soul events and the local club.

It’s taken me some time to find a way of photographing these events without lights as the darker the better.  This adds to the look and feel of being at a Northern Soul event.

‘Capture the moment’ has become my motto and I hope these images show you the passion and the feeling the music brings out.

It’s a pleasure and an honour to be part of the soulers’ passion and I hope these images show what the hype is about but be assured, they won’t beat being present for the real thing.

What a way to live.  See you on the dance floor.
