Blue Pig Sleeping in the Gutter

The Blue Pig Orchestra is a highly successful, local, six piece rock and folk influenced band. They will be playing their much accomplished rockin’ and toe tappin’ music at Bootleg Social, which is situated on Topping Street, Blackpool, on Thursday March 26. The Blue Pig Orchestra will hit the stage to begin their performance at 8.30pm and doors open at 7pm. Entry to Bootleg Social is FREE, so there is no excuse not to attend what will be a thoroughly entertaining experience.

On the evening, Bootleg Social will be screening a film of Blue Pig Orchestra’s new music video, and single, named Sleeping in the Gutter. Get there early to make sure you won’t miss out. The single  will be available from March 26 as a FREE download from the Blue Pig Orchestra website. They will be playing a set of their original material, so if you are an ardent follower of the band, or a newcomer, their music will be sure to get your feet stomping in time to their rhythmic vibe.

The Blue Pig Orchestra consists of band members Mike Rolland on guitar, mandolin, harmonica, vocals and (occasionally) banjo, Jo Byrne on guitar, vocals and piano, Darren Rice on guitar and vocals, Mark Mitchell on drums and vocals and Stuart Emery on bass. The band’s newest member is Richard Curran who is on violin, viola, cello, mandolin (as well as any other stringed instrument he can get his hands on).

The ‘orchestra’ formed in 2007 and Mike and Jo have played together for over fifteen years. Mike and Jo first played together in an REM tribute band. Alongside their covers of popular songs, they started to include their own written songs into their repertoire. Their first EP is called Witches. Their second EP is From the Storm and was released last year.

Many of their songs have roots in Blackpool and Sleeping in the Gutter has reminiscences of Blackpool’s back alleyways. The title of the song has been inspired by drinking, falling over, and generally messing things up but it is “pretty upbeat,” Jo tells me.

Not only do The Blue Pig Orchestra have a great new single but an amazing video to go with it. Shakespearean actor Johnnie Moran plays the lead role in the video, which sounds pretty awesome to me! None of the band have seen the video yet so a surprise is in store for all.

The Blue Pig Orchestra are currently working on their first full length album and hope to release it early September, in time for this year’s Folk and Roots Festival where they will support Show of Hands. Bootleg Social is therefore pleased to introduce to their club The Blue Pig Orchestra to play their music for you on Thursday March 26. Do not Forget! A definite date for the diary.
