Colette Halstead has produced this brooch using the traditional technique of kiln-fused glass. This item is taken from her Leaf and Landscape series and features a hawthorn leaf encased inside the glass. Leaves are gathered from different locations in Lancashire; from the lanes of Over Wyre to the edge of Tolkien’s Bowland. Each piece is as unique as the leaves captured within it. No two pieces can ever be the same.
This would be an ideal gift for anyone of any age and would look great on the lapel of a winter coat. Colette offers a wide range of gifts, from jewellery to coasters, mirrors and dishes. This brooch usually costs £10 but if you complete our readers’ survey (competition closed: 24/12/12) (a mere 2 minutes of your time) you are in with a chance of winning it in our fabulous Christmas gift giveaway!
Colette Halstead, glass artist, is based in Lancashire. Using traditional techniques of kiln-fused glass and leaded glass she produces wall panels, containers, lamps and jewellery which can be found in galleries throughout the UK. Colette discovered the potential of glass in 2004 after graduating with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Printmaking and has taught kiln-fused and stained glass skills since 2007. Prior to this she worked on Blackpool Illuminations where she manufactured features from design, using carving, drawing and painting skills. She also assisted in erecting and dismantling the displays.
Inspired by nature and a desire to connect to the organic feel of her work, Colette chose Pilling as the ideal location to base her workshop. With beautiful views of the open countryside and a peaceful tranquility, she believes that it helps her to feel driven to create. It is also only a short distance from both Blackpool and Preston and therefore provides the ideal base for courses, enabling people to learn about creating stunning pieces of glass for themselves.
Colette has now expanded her range to include gift certificates, so your loved ones can select their own perfect piece of jewellery. Alternatively, they could put it towards a glass-making session.
Colette’s work can be found in local galleries, such as The Grundy, Blackpool, and The Art Rooms in Garstang. Details of other stockists can be found on her website. Colette also attends many local craft fairs. Her glass can be found at these places in the run up to Christmas:
- 8th and 9th December: Preston Flag Market and Blackpool’s Handmade on the High Street.
- 10th and 11th December: Garstang Victorian Christmas Market
- 15th and 16th December: Brockholes Crafty Vintage Fair
