Avenue Q hits Blackpool

Avenue Q

This Tony Award winning, comedy musical is back in Blackpool this week where it will surely delight audiences during its run at the Winter Garden’s Opera House.  Already a smash hit on Broadway and in the West End, it is bringing a host of fuzzy friends to Blackpool.

Avenue Q is a musical about growing up, dreaming big and finding your purpose in life.  It features what are described as the naughtiest puppets in town, hilariously brought to life by an ensemble cast of 11 performers.

Princeton, a bright eyed graduate, arrives in New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank balance.  He soon discovers that the only neighbourhood in his price range is Avenue Q and finds himself moving in with some very quirky characters.  There’s out-of-work comedian Brian and his fiancée Christmas Eve, Nicky the good-hearted slacker and his closest gay Republican roommate Rod.  Then there’s Internet ‘sexpert’ Trekkie, he’s the horny Cookie Monster equivalent who has ditched the baked confectionery for a love of, well to put it mildly, ‘online entertainment’, and promiscuous puppet Lucy, resident man-eater and oestrogen-fuelled mix of Barbara Cartland and Miss Piggy!  That’s as much as I dare put, after all this is a family page …

This hilarious musical is not for the easily offended and, despite the puppets, definitely not one for the kids either.  On the musical front, the show features songs such as ‘Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist’ ‘If You Were Gay’ and ‘The Internet Is For Porn’ – need I say more?

Avenue Q is at The Opera House from 6 to 11 June. Tickets range from £15-£29.50. For further information please visit www.wintergardensblackpool.co.uk
