Fylde Coast Youth Dance Seeks Director

Are you passionate about developing local youth dance? Are you a Fylde dance practitioner looking to develop your career? Are you free on Sundays over the next year or so, or able to make yourself so for the right opportunity. An exciting position has come up as Director of Fylde Coast Youth Dance Company. But you need to get a quickstep on as initial expressions of interest have to be submitted within a fortnight.

Fylde Coast Youth Dance Company needs a dedicated and experienced Company Director to guide the young dancers in developing excellent contemporary dance technique, creative skills, developing innovative choreography and high quality performances. The ideal candidate will have experience working with dancers of varying ability aged between 12 – 19 years, choreographing exciting and innovative performance work. You would support young people to be strong, creative individuals, building the dancers and dance artists of the future.

The ideal candidate will be organised, committed and a strong communicator, both with the young people and parents and also with the Company Manager, other stakeholders and as an advocate for Fylde Coast Youth Dance Company. You will hold current DBS clearance, Public Liability Insurance and a Level 1 qualification in Safeguarding. Applications from artists based on the Fylde Coast and Lancashire will be prioritised.

You would need to be able to commit to the following dates:-

  • One initial meeting with the Company Manager mid-September

  • Leading the Company Audition on 2 October 2016

  • Delivering fortnightly sessions on Sundays 10am – 3pm, starting 16 October 2016 running until July 2017 (with an exam break during May)

  • Attending and support dancers during the James Wilton Intensive weekend 29-30 October 2016

The fee is £150 per Sunday session with extra fees for the other elements.

Fylde Coast Youth Dance Company are a contemporary youth dance company from Blackpool and the Fylde Coast. The company are based at Blackpool Grand Theatre Studios and are funded by Blackpool Council Arts Service, with financial support from the Grand Theatre. The company audition for members once a year and focus on developing creative practice and performance skills within the contemporary dance sector. They work with professional dancers and companies throughout the year and aim to create exciting and innovative performance works to be showcased at local events and regional dance platforms.

Over the past three years the company have had huge success gaining places at UDance NorthWest, Lancashire Youth Dance Festival and the Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival. They have worked with professionals in workshops and intensives such as James Wilton, Company Chameleon, 2Faced, Joss Arnott and Tommy Small as part of the BBC Shakespeare Shuffle project.

Successful applicants will be invited to interview on 2 September.
