A new acrobatic dance school has opened in Blackpool with support from Blackpool Council’s Get Started service.
Chelsey Marie Baldwin has set up her own acrobatic dance school in Blackpool, hoping to help young children become Olympic superstars. Until she was 14, Chelsey was named as one of the best in the country, ranking seventh on the vault. Unfortunately she was unable to pursue her own dream due to injury and was forced to retire from the sport in 2010. She then began to pursue other avenues within the sport.
“I was introduced to coaching by my own coach Sammy Mankowska and I fell in love with it straight away. I had the eye for spotting mistakes and also the praise for the children who gave it their all. I wanted to be at coaching all the time I couldn’t wait to get there and help them with learning new skills,” said Chelsey of her change in direction.
Following a stint as a coach and cheoreographer, she decided to pursue her new dream. Chelsey Marie Dance School has now opened its doors thanks to help from both the Get Started team and a £1,910 grant from the BIBA’s foundation.
Cllr Mark Smith, Blackpool Council’s Cabinet Member for Business and Economic Development, added: “This is a great story of Chelsey bouncing back from a setback, taking control of her future and setting up in business – I wish her the best of luck.”
Sessions at the Chelsey Marie Dance Academy take place every weekday evening. Monday and Tuesday sessions take place at The Oracle on St Annes Road, with Wednesday, Thursday and Friday sessions next to the Methodist church at Palmer Avenue in South Shore.
