Gold, Frankincense and Mirth at The Grand

It is widely considered that 2016 has been a bit of a misery inducing year, with the departures of many entertainment greats for a start. And it’s now the middle of winter, so it’s cold and dark and depressing anyway. What better for a bit of a lift in the run-up to Christmas than some fresh stand-up comedy, and where better than the delightful Grand Theatre which hosts the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club this Friday.

Topping the bill is Jamie Sutherland, rather boldly trailed as ‘John Bishop but with more jokes’. You might therefore deduce he is a Scouser, and even though we don’t generally talk about association football on these pages it is probably worth mentioning that Jamie is a regular compere in the corporate hospitality at Everton FC..You can catch a taster of Jamie’s work below.

There is another Liverpudlian on the bill as well, Adam Rowe. A comedy performer on stage since a very young age, he is a former winner of Liverpool Comedian Of The Year. Adam has a fast pace delivery of stories grounded in real life. You can see a sample of his routine previewing an Edinburgh Festival slot below.

Finally from across the (small) pond is Irish comic Donal Vaughan. Hailing from Dublin Donal is holder of the prestigious title of Beat The Frog World Series Final Winner! His act is based on an unassuming and self-deprecating worldview, reflecting passions of natural history and talking about himself. An example of Donal’s material is below.

The night is hosted by Laugh Out Loud Comedy producer Damion Larkin and starts at 8pm, with doors open from 7.30. If you can get your tickets from the Box Office ahead of the gig you’ll save some pennies, as they are then £13 whereas the on the door cost will be £15.50. The LOLCC will continue in the New Year, stay tuned to altblackpool for future line-ups.
